Sukkot, Friday evening, September 25 through Friday, October 2

Sukkot is also known as the Feast of Booths, a time to gather outdoors in the sukkah with friends and family.

Sukkot Events

Join Temple Israel for Sukkot!

Help build the sukkah!

All are invited to help put up these temporary structures, then decorate.
Fun for the whole family! Bring natural materials (flowers, gourds, fruits,
vegetables, branches, corn stalks) to decorate our sukkahs.

  • Check back for dates and times

First we build, then we will decorate! Bring only natural materials (flowers, branches, gourds, etc.) to beautify our sukkah next to Shapiro House at Strawbery Banke. Bring cards and paper chains  to decorate the sukkah at TIP. All are welcome!

Erev Sukkot Service and Potluck at Strawbery Banke
Friday, September 25 5:30pm

Gather in the beautiful sukkah at Strawbery Banke to welcome the festival.
Bring a dairy/pareve dish to share and a chair. Please register here. This will not be livestreamed on Facebook as there will be no
service.

Sukkot Yom Tov Service at Temple Israel
Saturday, September 26, 19:30 am, led by Rabbi Marc Hersch. A Shabbat service with Hallel, ollowed by kiddush in our sukkah.

Pizza in the Hut

Wednesday, September 30, 5:30 pm

Celebrate the Feast of Booths with delicious cheese pizza!

Parents – come a little early to Hebrew School pickup to join your children in the Temple Israel sukkah (in the Court Street parking lot).

Enjoy Sukkot together with all your senses – feel a lulav, smell an etrog, see the beautiful decorations of the Temple sukkah, hear the blessings, taste some yummy pizza! We’ll have lulavs and etrogs available to feel, smell and shake. Make your own sensory stressball etrog! Stay to eat Kosher cheese pizza dinner together.

All ages welcome! This family-friendly event takes place at the Temple Israel sukkah. Learn more and register.

Visit the sukkah at Temple Israel or Strawbery Banke on any of the days of Sukkot to enjoy a meal or a snack, tell stories, meet others, and enjoy this outdoor holiday.

Hoshana Rabbah

Hoshana Rabbah Service with potluck lunch
Friday, October 1, 10am – pm at a private home (location will be provided up on registration)

Celebrate the last day of Sukkot in prayer and song, including a lulav parade. Please bring a dairy / pareve / vegetarian dish to share after the service! All are welcome.

This service will be held at a private home. Address and directions are provided upon registration. Please bring a lawn chair, your tallit, and lulav and etrog if you have them! (This service will NOT be held in the case of inclement weather. Please register to receive weather-related alerts!)

Visit the Sukkah at TIP or Strawbery Banke!

During the week of Sukkot (Friday evening, September 25, through Friday, October 2 before sunset), fulfill the mitzvah to “dwell” in the sukkah. Bring a snack, have a seat and recite this blessing:

Barukh Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha-olam asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu lei’sheiv ba-sukkah. 
Blessed is Adonai our G-d who sanctifies us with mitzvot and with this mitzvah to sit in the sukkah.

  • Folding chairs will be available in the TI sukkah; picnic tables are available in the SB sukkah.
  • Please remove any trash when you leave.
  • No reservation is required; please be mindful about sharing the space with others.
  • To visit the Strawbery Banke sukkah before 5pm, enter through the main admissions gate and let the staff know you are visiting the sukkah. After 5pm you may enter through side gates.

Shemini Atzeret

Shemini Atzeret Torah services
Shemini Atzeret (which translates to “the eighth day of gathering,” follows the seven days of Sukkot and leads directly into Simchat Torah. Observances include Torah readings and reciting Yizkor.

Saturday, October 3, 9:30 am – 12 pm

Please come and help make a minyan as we near the end of our fall holidays! This is the final chance to enjoy a kiddush in the Sukkah.

Simchat Torah with The Klezwoods

Please join us for a light dinner at 5:00 pm, followed by a holiday program for kids, a community-wide Simchat Torah celebration with live klezmer music by the Klezwoods, and an ice cream buffet dance party. This is a family-friendly event! Kindly register to help us plan refreshments.
