School News by Jim Dricker, Director New School Opening Sunday Nov. 4 The Religious School Committee met on October 2, walked through the entire building, and determined that the best course of action is to postpone the grand opening of the school until all construction and finishing work is complete. Sunday, November 4 is the opening date for the school. Students in all grades, from kindergarten through grade 7, will begin the morning at 9:00 AM in our Sanctuary before proceeding off to their classrooms with their teachers and madrichim. Wednesday classes begin on November 7 for grades 3 through 7. The presence of contractors' equipment, dust, paint fumes and off-limits areas poses a safety and health hazard to our children. Starting classes in those areas that are finished and usable at this time does not mitigate these safety concerns. We regret that the delay of school opening has extended so far into the fall, but we place the health and safety of your children above all else. The members of the committee reviewed the school calendar for the balance of the year and identified 6 Sundays to add to the calendar. Amazingly, once these Sundays were added, the net loss in instructional time for the entire academic year is only one hour! The latest revision to the academic calendar will be sent out to parents as a separate e-mail. Hard copies are available in the Temple office. Our new education center is exquisite. When our school opens in its new space the temporary disruptions we have been adjusting to will become quickly fading memories.
